FAQs
Question: Synchronized swimming seems like a big commitment
Answer: Synchro is the ultimate team sport. Each member of a team or training group plays an important role and it is important that each parent and swimmer commit to the entire training and competition schedule. The girls bond as team members and learn to work together and support each other. Commitment, team work, time management, and focus are only a few skills they will learn.
Question: My daughter is a strong swimmer, does she need to start at the beginning?
Answer: Yes. Strong swimmers do well with in synchro but will start at the beginning because synchro strokes and skills are not ones that are usually taught in swimming lessons or at speed swimming clubs. Our coaches will recommend changing levels if your swimmer needs to be moved up a level.
If you have any questions about which program would be best suited for your daughter, our Head Coach would be happy to help you. Get in touch with us through the contact page.
Question: Where do I find the equipment (swim cap, goggles, nose plug)?
Answer: Black swim suits (required for competitions, including the Fun Meet that all swimmers attend) caps and nose clips can be found in a number of shops including Swimco and Sport Chek in the Orchard Park Mall. We also recommend using www.swimoutlet.com.
Coaches recommend a silicone swim cap (they last longer and are more comfortable for swimmers than latex caps). Make sure to get a nose plug without a string for around the neck.
Question: Does the Club do any Fundraising?
Answer: Yes, the Kelowna Dolphins does fundraise through the season. The 2016-2017 fundraisers included the Synchro BC Raffle, a bottle drive, Christmas flower sale, and a program through Sport Chek as well. 2017--2018 we will be selling Synchro BC Raffle tickets again, likely doing a bottle drive or two, and are investigating some other unique fundraisers as well to help keep the club running. This year we're hoping to purchase some additional equipment for the club and some signs or banners to let people know who we are.
